Azure Security Assessment: Fixed-Price, Fixed-Scope

A fixed-price Azure security assessment by Microsoft-certified engineers: we review your subscriptions and Microsoft Entra ID against the CIS Azure Foundations Benchmark and deliver a severity-ranked report with exact fixes.

Quick answer: An Azure security assessment is a read-only review of your Azure subscriptions and Microsoft Entra ID tenant for misconfigurations: identity, network exposure, storage, logging and Microsoft Defender for Cloud coverage. Ours is a fixed-price quote agreed before we start, takes about five business days for one subscription, and ends with a prioritised report and a walkthrough call.

An Azure security assessment shows you how much damage a single compromised account could do in your tenant. We review identity, networking, storage, logging and Microsoft Defender for Cloud against the CIS Microsoft Azure Foundations Benchmark and Microsoft’s own security guidance, then rank the findings by real risk, each with the exact fix.

What our Azure security assessment checks

  • Microsoft Entra ID: MFA, Conditional Access, privileged roles, guest users
  • Privileged Identity Management and standing administrator access
  • Azure RBAC assignments at management group, subscription and resource level
  • Microsoft Defender for Cloud plans and secure score recommendations
  • Azure Policy assignments and compliance state
  • Network security groups, public IPs and exposed management ports
  • Storage accounts: public access, secure transfer, keys and SAS tokens
  • Azure Key Vault access, soft delete and purge protection
  • Activity log, diagnostic settings, Azure Monitor and Microsoft Sentinel
  • AKS, App Service, Azure SQL and Functions configuration

How the Azure security assessment works

1

Scoping call (free)

A 20-minute call to agree the tenant and subscriptions in scope, your compliance targets (ISO 27001, SOC 2, HIPAA, GDPR) and anything off limits. You receive a fixed-price quote in writing before work starts.

2

Read-only access

You grant our engineers the built-in Reader and Security Reader roles on the subscriptions in scope, plus the Entra Global Reader role for the tenant review. We cannot change resources, and you can remove access when the assessment ends.

3

Automated and manual review

We use open-source tooling such as Prowler and ScoutSuite for breadth, then review the results by hand against how your tenant is actually used. An engineer decides what is genuinely risky and what is noise.

4

Report and walkthrough

You receive an executive summary, severity-ranked findings mapped to CIS controls, and step-by-step remediation for each. We walk your team through it on a call.

Who needs an Azure security assessment

Companies that run Microsoft 365 and Azure together and have never reviewed how the two share identities, teams preparing for ISO 27001 or SOC 2, organisations that moved workloads to Azure quickly and want assurance afterwards, and anyone who needs evidence for a customer security review. If your Secure Score has never been read by a human, start here.

What you receive from the Azure security assessment

  • Executive summary written for non-engineers and auditors
  • Findings ranked critical, high, medium and low
  • Exact remediation steps, with Azure CLI or Bicep snippets where useful
  • Mapping of findings to CIS Microsoft Azure Foundations Benchmark controls
  • A 60-minute walkthrough call with the engineer who did the assessment
  • A short list of the five fixes to do first

Why identity comes first in an Azure security assessment

In Azure, identity is the perimeter. Almost every route to your resources runs through Microsoft Entra ID, so an administrator without multi-factor authentication, a stale guest account or an overly broad role assignment matters more than any firewall rule. Our Azure security assessment therefore starts with the tenant: who holds privileged roles, whether they are permanent or just-in-time through Privileged Identity Management, and which Conditional Access policies actually apply. Only then do we move to subscriptions, networks and data.

What an Azure security assessment covers beyond Defender for Cloud

Microsoft Defender for Cloud gives you a Secure Score and a list of recommendations, and we use it as one input. What it cannot do is tell you which recommendations apply to your business or in what order to fix them, and some of its plans are off by default and cost extra. We check which Defender plans you have enabled and whether anyone acts on the alerts. We then add the context a score cannot: how your subscriptions are organised, who can reach what, and where your data really sits.

Azure security assessment versus penetration test

An Azure security assessment reviews configuration with read-only access. A penetration test tries to break in. Most organisations get better value from assessing and fixing first, then testing. If you want the offensive step, see AWS and Azure penetration testing. If you also run AWS, an AWS security audit uses the same method, so findings are comparable across both clouds.

How we rank Azure findings

Severity is based on how easily a weakness can be exploited and what it exposes. A storage account that allows public blob access and holds customer data outranks ten missing tags. Low-risk items are grouped at the end so they do not distract from the fixes that matter, and every finding is mapped to the CIS control it relates to so your auditor can follow the trail.

What a finding looks like in the report

Each finding states what we found, where, why it matters in plain language, how severe it is, how to fix it, and how to confirm the fix worked. For example, a storage account that still allows anonymous blob access would be listed with its name and resource group, the risk (anyone on the internet could read its containers), the severity, the exact setting to change, and a command to verify it. You should never have to ask what a finding means.

Where Azure environments usually drift

Environments rarely start insecure. They drift. A project team gets Owner on a subscription to hit a deadline and keeps it. A network security group opens port 3389 or 22 for a quick test and never closes it. Diagnostic settings are enabled on the first subscription and forgotten on the next five. A guest account added for a contractor outlives the contract. An Azure security assessment is a snapshot that catches this drift, and the report makes it easy to set up the guard rails, such as Azure Policy and access reviews, that stop it from returning.

One subscription or many

The Essential package covers one subscription plus the tenant identity review. The Standard package covers up to five subscriptions, management group structure, Azure Policy governance and centralised logging. Both are fixed-price. See how our fixed-price cloud security consulting quotes work for the details.

How we price the Azure security assessment

We do not publish a price list, because the right price depends on scope: the number of subscriptions, whether management group governance and centralised logging are in scope, and any compliance mapping you need. After a free 20-minute scoping call you receive one written, fixed-price quote, approved before we start. A single-subscription assessment typically takes about five business days and a multi-subscription one about ten. Read how our fixed-price cloud security consulting quotes work.

Who does the work

Your Azure security assessment is carried out by our certified senior engineers, with Microsoft Certified and Licensed Ethical Hacker credentials across the team. The engineer who scopes it also runs it and presents the report. Work is remote, and an NDA is available on request.

Frequently asked questions

What is an Azure security assessment?

An Azure security assessment is a structured, read-only review of your Azure subscriptions and Microsoft Entra ID tenant. It checks identity, networking, storage, logging and Microsoft Defender for Cloud coverage against the CIS Azure Foundations Benchmark and Microsoft guidance, then ranks the findings with fixes.

How much does an Azure security assessment cost?

We quote every Azure security assessment as one written, fixed price after a free scoping call, because the cost depends on the number of subscriptions and the scope of the tenant review. You approve the quote before work starts.

How long does it take?

A single-subscription assessment typically takes about five business days from the day we receive read-only access. A multi-subscription assessment typically takes about ten. The fixed quote states the timeline for your scope.

What access do you need?

Read-only access only: the built-in Reader and Security Reader roles on the subscriptions in scope, and the Global Reader role in Microsoft Entra ID. We cannot change resources, and you can remove the access when we are done.

Is this the same as Microsoft Defender for Cloud?

No. Defender for Cloud is a tool that scores your posture and raises recommendations. The assessment uses it as one input, then adds human judgement: what applies to your business, what to fix first, and what the score cannot see, such as how identities and roles are really used.

Do you also cover Microsoft 365?

The assessment covers Microsoft Entra ID because Azure depends on it. A full Microsoft 365 workload review (Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams) is outside this package, and we say so in the quote if you need it.

Can you fix the findings?

Yes, if you want. The report is written so your team can fix everything itself. If you prefer we do it, remediation is scoped as a separate fixed-price piece of work after you have read the findings.
